There will be no charge for borrowing DVD’s but we expect them to be returned in a timely manner for other member’ benefit. Since the DVD’s are commercially available material we also expect copyright to be honoured. The DVD’s presently available are listed below.

Thanks to John for providing brief descriptions of each DVD’s content. Please see Terms & Conditions.

Ultimate Driving Craft (DVD 100 minutes)

This programme has been produced by Chris Gilbert who is a former Police Sergeant Advanced Driving School Instructor from the Metropolitan Police Motor Driving School, Hendon. As well as attaining the standard of a Police class 1 classification he has also attained other significant qualifications such as LGV, PCV and is a DSA ADI Level 6 Instructor.

Chris has a relaxed teaching style which is very suitable for a DVD audience. The DVD covers many advanced driving techniques throughout the range of driving environments (urban, rural, motorways, bad weather, progressive etc) with an initial emphasis on the benefit and development of commentary as a method of driving “self development”. The DVD instruction is given in the form of an Instructors style of commentary which Chris delivers in a very listenable manner.

Bespoke Driver Training

Bespoke Driver training is a training  organisation founded by Mark Kendrick, an ex police Driving school instructor. Bespoke have produced a series of “Driving Mastery” Training DVD’s of which the group have acquired the following two. A key point when viewing these instructional DVD’s is the very high technical quality of the production and the very high standard of driving exhibited by the presenters.

Advanced Roadcraft (DVD – 68 minutes)

This DVD features general skills and techniques for driving safely and progressively in the range of road environment and includes tips for driving at night. The techniques and skills presented cover much of the syllabus of the Police Roadcraft Manual including a section including demonstration of safe overtaking a twenty minute demonstration of advanced driving through busy city traffic and a section on motorway driving.

Commentary Driving (DVD- 75 Minutes)

This programme presents the development and expert examples of driving commentary. The Programme features 3 commentary sections:

1 – Developing commentary along with tips and demonstration examples

2 – A Commentary drive by an accomplished Advanced driver who exhibits the normal reactions and responses when placed in the    commentary position – accomplished and believable

3 – A Commentary drive by a Police driving instructor with many years experience of commentary driving. Commentary drive is flowing, concise and relevant and at a standard probably more appropriate to police classifications but nonetheless is fascinating to observe.

We would like to advise you that some of the material shown on the DVD’s is beyond the requirements of the Advanced Driving Test, most notably demonstrations of ‘off-siding’  i.e. crossing broken white centre lines to improve smooth progress in, typically, rural areas. The Group does not advocate the use of this practice for Associates, Observers or the general membership.

Roadcraft - The Police Driver's Course on Advance Driving',

'Roadcraft - The Police Driver's Course on Advance Driving',
Rather than being a purely instructional this DVD follows police candidates on an advanced driving course run at the Metropolitan Police Motor Driving School, Hendon.

The DVD complements "Roadcraft: The Police Drivers Handbook"" by showing the instructors coaching the candidates through advanced driving techniques and particularly the System of Car control. The course includes the range of driving situations covered by the group and additionally includes sections on night driving and skid pan training.

The DVD was produced by the Police Federation and its content is very much suited to the needs of everyday safe progressive civilian driving in keeping with the requirements of the advanced driving test.

The information contained in the various Group Resource Items is for guidance only, which each borrower must ensure is used sensibly and safely. Driving is never a black and white activity, but full of grey areas, therefore the Group cannot accept liability for any consequences you may experience as a result of following advice in the Group Resource Items.
